FAQs About Adult Speech Therapy in the Philippines

Q: What causes difficulty swallowing (dysphagia)?

Swallowing is a complex process that relies on various pairs of muscles and nerves working together. Difficulty swallowing (medically called dysphagia) happens when something interrupts this process. Common causes include muscles are not strong enough or coordinated enough to move the food, or the pathway is blocked or too narrow.

Q: Can IMVC Manila help with difficulty swallowing?
Yes. Swallowing therapy (dysphagia management) is one of our core services for adults. We use safe, evidence-based methods to make eating and drinking easier and safer.

Q: How long will therapy take?

Some patients improve after a few weeks, while others need longer, depending on their medical history and recovery goals. Therapy can be done face-to-face or virtually.

Q: Is adult speech therapy covered by HMOs or PhilHealth?

We are currently not accredited with any HMOs and PhilHealth usually does not cover outpatient speech therapy, but IMVC Manila provides official receipts for possible reimbursement.
